Summary
The Clarke Medal is awarded annually by the Royal Society of New South Wales to recognise distinguished research in the natural sciences undertaken in Australia or its territories, with contributions in botany, geology and zoology being considered in rotation. Notification of the first award, that for 1878, was made in 1880. William Branwhite Clarke was the first Vice-President of the Society and one of Australia's most eminent nineteenth-century geologists. Since 2018 the recipient of the Medal has also delivered the Clarke Memorial Lecture to the Society.
