Summary

Peter Hall was an outstanding researcher in the areas of probability and theoretical and applied statistics and one of the most highly-cited people in the field. He was Professor of Statistics at the Centre for Mathematics and its Applications at the Mathematical Sciences Institute, Australian National University in Canberra for 18 years before becoming Professor of Statistics at the University of Melbourne. Hall authored well over 300 journal articles, received many awards for his efforts, was elected Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science (FAA) and the Royal Society (FRS), and served on many editorial boards for top statistical journals.
