Summary
The Thomas Ranken Lyle Medal was awarded by the Australian National Research Council between 1935 and 1953, and since 1957 has been awarded (usually) in alternate years by the Australian Academy of Science. It recognises outstanding achievement by a scientist in Australia for research in mathematics or physics. The Medal commemorates the contribution to Australian science and industry generally, and in particular to his own fields, of Sir Thomas Ranken Lyle, FRS, Professor of Natural Philosophy at the University of Melbourne from 1889 to 1915.
