Summary

In February 2006 the Department of Natural Resources and Mines (II) was renamed the Department of Natural Resources, Mines and Water. This re-naming was in part due to ongoing drought in Queensland that the government responded to through several water infrastructure projects. The department was short lived and in September 2006 it was split across two new departments: The Department of Natural Resources and Water (2006 - 2009) and the Department of Mines and Energy (II) (2009). The Department of Mines and Energy (II) (2009) amalgamated elements of the Department of Natural Resources, Mines and Water with the entirety of the Energy Department (2004 - 2006).
