Summary
The State Rivers and Water Supply Commission, Victoria was established by the Water Act 1905, vesting overall responsibility for conservation and distribution of Victoria's rural water supplies for irrigation, industrial and urban purposes under one independent authority. As a result, it took over responsibility for all of the existing Victorian rural water trusts and irrigation schemes. The Commission survived for almost eighty years, being replaced by the Rural Water Commission in 1984.
