Summary

Milton Speedie, MCE HonFIEAust FASCE, was a civil engineer specialising in the design, construction and safety of large dams. He joined the State Rivers and Water Supply Commission of Victoria in 1935 and rose to be Chief Designing Engineer from 1963 until he retired in 1973. He was associated with the Murray River Commission, the Australian Committee on Large Dams (ANCOLD) and the International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD). His major projects included the new Eildon Dam and investigations for many dams including sites in the Upper Murray. His expertise was recognised nationally and internationally and for many years he represented Australia on ICOLD and was its Vice-President 1972 to 1975.
