It was originally formed in 1937 when the Council of the Standards Association nominated eight engineers to form the Australian committee of the International Committee on Large Dams. The founding committee comprised: H. H. Dare, as chairman, and S. T. Farnsworth (New South Wales); A. E. Kelso, L. R. East (Victoria); W. H. R. Nimmo (Queensland); H. T. M.
