The Department of Mines and Petroleum (2009 - 2017) held a regulatory and safety role within Western Australia's mining and petroleum industries. Established in 2009 after the dissolution of the Department of Industry and Resources (2003 - 2009) this department was created alongside the Department of Commerce (2009 - 2017) and the Department of State Development [2] (2009 - 2017). In 2017 the Department of Mines and Petroleum (2009 - 2017) was dissolved and reassembled with elements of the Department of Commerce (2009 -2017) related to science forming the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (2017 - ).
