Summary

The Department of Industry and Resources was the result of a merger of the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources (2001 - 2003) and the Department of Industry and Technology (2001 - 2003). It carried out functions relating to the mining sector, trade and investment. In 2009 the Department of Industry and Resources was split into three new departments. The Department of Mines and Petroleum (2009 - 2017), the Department of State Development [2] (2009 - 2017), and the Department of Commerce. Responsibility for science and innovation was passed onto the Department of Commerce (2009 - 2017).
