Summary
George Paxinos was appointed Professor of Psychology at the University of New South Wales since 1991. He has worked there since settling in Australia in 1973, starting as a lecturer. He is interested in mapping the human brain, which will allow comparisons between "normal" brains and those with abnormalities such as Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease. He was educated at the University of California (BA, MA), and McGill University (PhD). His publications include the textbook The brain: an introduction to functional neuroanatomy (2010) and, with Charles Watson, The rat brain in stereotaxic coordinates (1986, 7th edition 2014). The Paxinos-Watson Award is presented annually by the Australasian Neurological Society for the most significant neuroscience paper published by a member of the Society in the year of presentation.
