Summary
The Walter Burfitt Prize, which consists of a bronze medal and a monetary prize, has been awarded every three years by the Royal Society of New South Wales since 1929. It recognises original research in pure or applied science conducted in the previous six years and deemed to be of high scientific merit, by a resident of Australia or New Zealand. The Prize commemorates Walter Burfitt, a Sydney consultant surgeon, whose donation to the Society (later augmented by donations from other family members) enabled the establishment of the Prize.
