Summary
Victor Bailey was employed as a demonstrator in Electrical Laboratory Oxford and occasional lecturer, Queen's College. In 1924 he was appointed as Associate Professor of Physics at the University of Sydney. Bailey was subsequently promoted to Professor of Experimental Physics 1936-1952 and Research Professor 1953-1960. His principal research interests were in the conduction of electricity in gases and the drift and diffusion of electrons, With D. F. Martyn he published an influential analysis of the Luxembourg effect whereby passing radio signals were modified by an intervening powerful source. With A. J. Nicholson developed ideas on the balance of interacting populations of host and parasitic species.
