Summary

Established under the Melbourne Harbor Trust Act 40 Vict., No.5523 (1876), the Melbourne Harbor Trust Commissioners had responsibility for all port facilities and regulation of trade of the Port of Melbourne, the lower reaches of the Yarra River and the Saltwater River (Maribyrnong River).

In 1978, under the Port of Melbourne Authority Act 1978 the Melbourne Harbor Trust Commissioners was reconstituted as the Port of Melbourne Authority.
