Summary

Gordon Gutteridge, BCE MSc MIEAust, was the Director, Division of Public Health Engineering, Commonwealth Department of Public Health from 1924 to 1928, and a consulting engineer specialising in water supply and sewerage schemes from 1928 until his death in 1942. Through these roles he had a major influence on public health and successfully guided the design and construction of major town water supply and sewerage schemes throughout Australia, that continue to provide on-going public health benefits. In 1939, he partnered with Gerald Haskins and Geoff Davey - the Sydney consulting engineering partnership of Haskins and Davey - to form the major firm Gutteridge, Haskins and Davey (GHD).
