Summary
The Royal Zoological Society of New South Wales is the oldest zoological society in Australia. Originally it's aims were in accord with general acclimatisation principles: the introduction and acclimatisation of suitable and desirable animals from abroad to improve the New South Wales environment. The Society now promotes the science of zoology as a scientific discipline, actively supports zoological researchers, and works to protect, preserve and conserve the indigenous animals of Australasia and their associated habitats. Since 1914 the Society's publications have included the journal Australian zoologist and a series of handbooks. The Entomological Section ran from 1921 under the initial chairmanship of Gustavus Waterhouse, but discontinued c.1930 largely due to diminishing attendances.
