The Department of Tourism, Arts and the Environment (2006 - 2008) also known as DTAE was created in 2006 as a result of the amalgamation of the Department of Primary Industries, Water and Environment (1998 - 2006) with the Department of Tourism, Parks, Heritage and the Arts (2002 - 2006). This department was home to the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens (1828 - ), and the Parks and Wildlife Service (1993 - ) amongst others until it was dissolved in 2008. In 2008 the departments functions were re-assigned between the Department of Economic Development and Tourism (2008 - 2010) and the Department of Environment, Parks, Heritage and the Arts (2008 - 2009).
