Summary
The Department of Tourism, Parks, Heritage and the Arts was established in 2002 after the dissolution of the Department of State Development (1998 - 2002) and the dispersal of its functions across the Tasmanian Government. The Department of Tourism, Parks, Heritage and the Arts was home to the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery (1848 - ), the Parks and Wildlife Service (1993 - ), Tourism Tasmania (1997 - ) and Arts@work (2003 - 2014). In 2006 the environmental functions of the Department of Primary Industries, Water and Environment (1998 - 2006) were merged with this department and it was renamed the Department of Tourism, Arts and the Environment (2006 - 2008).
