Summary

In 1989 the Mines Department (1894 - 1989) was renamed the Department of Resources and Energy (1989 - 1992). It appears to have undertaken the same responsibilities as the previous Mines Department (1894 - 1989) in addition to oversight of the Rivers and Water Supply Commission (1957 - 2011) and the Hobart Regional Water Board (1984 - 1997). In 1992 the Rivers and Water Supply Commission was split from the Mining function when the Department of Resources and Energy (1989 - 1992) dissolved. The mining functions were transferred to the Department of Mines (1992 - 1993) and the water functions to the Department of Primary Industry, Fisheries and Energy (1992 - 1993). In 1997 responsibility for the Hobart Regional Water Board (1984 - 1997) was passed to local councils.
