Summary
John Conran is a systematic botanist whose research focuses on families where their major centres of diversity are Australia and New Zealand. These include carnivorous plants families (especially Byblidaceae, Cephalotaceae, Droseraceae and Lentibulariaceae), as well as Lauraceae, Podocarpaceae and the petaloid monocotyledons. His main studies are of character evolution and biogeography, particularly in response to climate change. In 2000 Conran became Senior Lecturer in Plant Systematics and Evolution at the University of Adelaide.
