Summary

John Griffiths Davies was appointed In 1938 to establish the Agrostology Section in the CSIR/O Division of Plant Industry, initiating a program of pasture research. In 1959 he became the inaugural Chief of the Division of Tropical Pastures. His research was involved with tropical legumes that would grow in Queensland's nitrogen deficient soils and allow stock levels to be increased. Davies was a leading figure in the Australian Institute of Agricultural Science, being President from 1951 to 1952, and receiving its Medal in 1957.
