Summary
On 31st December 2002 the Department of Natural Resources and Environment was closed down and subdivided into two new entities: the Department of Sustainability and Environment and the Department of Primary Industries. The Department of Sustainability and Environment is the Victorian Government department responsible for sustainably managing water resources, bushfires, parks and other public land, forests, biodiversity and ecosystem conservation.
