Summary
The Gordon Institute of Technology began in 1887. It was then known as Gordon Technical College until it changed its name in 1921.
On 1 April 1976 Gordon Institute of Technology was split in two. Deakin University was established by merging Gordon Institute of Technology's higher education courses, with the State College of Victoria at Geelong (formerly Geelong Teachers' College). Gordon Institute of Technology's vocational courses continued as Gordon Technical College, which later became the Gordon Institute of TAFE.
