Description

The 12th Australian engineering heritage conference was held in Toowoomba, Queensland. 29 Sep -1 Oct 2003.

Abstract

2003 sees the return of the biennial Engineering Heritage Conference to Queensland the State of its origin. Ray Whitmore and his Queensland Division Heritage Panel inaugurated the biennial series with the excellent first conference in Brisbane in 1982. The prodigal child having now reached maturity and returned, it is especially appropriate to reaffirm that 'Engineering Heritage matters!' Heritage is what we value sufficiently to hand on to the next generation, both the assets and the stories relating to them. This volume includes almost all the conference papers. They cover a wide range from several angles, and there is a balance of subject between conserving and recording of the nation's engineering heritage assets. Unfortunately, there are few papers dealing with both these aspects applying to particular engineering heritage assets.
