Summary
The J. R. Bainton Prize, was established on funds presented to The Institution of Engineers Australia by the late Mr. J. R. Bainton, MIEAust, in recognition of the past efforts and work of the Electrical Association of Australia, a Foundation Society. It was awarded annually for the thesis, essay, report or paper which, in the opinion of the Council, demonstrated most effectively that the author had shown special ability or had performed meritorious work in the study of, or research in, the highly scientific and specialised applications of electrical engineering theory or in the theories which have application in the sphere of electrical engineering.
Only Graduate and Student Members under the age of thirty were eligible to compete for the Prize.
Submissions for the award were judged by the Papers and Publications Committee of the Council of the Institution.
The fund was established in 1923, however the first prize wasn't awarded until 1937.
