Summary

The "Science and Industry Research Act 1926" placed the control of the Commonwealth's activities in the field of scientific and industrial research in the hands of a "Council". It was a corporate body consisting of: three members nominated by the Minister (one as Chairman) and appointed by the Governor-General; the Chairman of each State Committee of the Council; and other members co-opted with the consent of the Minister by reason of their scientific knowledge.
