Summary
The A. J. Birch Medal has been awarded annually by the Organic Chemistry Division of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute since 1992. Sometimes called the Organic Chemistry Medal, it is the principal award made by the Division and recognises excellence in organic chemistry research conducted in Australia by a member of Institute. Arthur Birch, Professor of Organic Chemistry at the Australian National University for over 20 years from 1967, was President of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute from 1977 to 1978.
