Summary
The Frederick White Medal has been awarded biennially by the Australian Academy of Science since 1984. It recognises research by Australian scientists up to 10 years post-PhD in physics, astronomy, chemistry, and the terrestrial and planetary sciences. Such research has made actual, or has the potential to make, significant contributions to community interests, to rural or industrial processes, or to the understanding of natural phenomena. Until 2016 the Medal was known as the Frederick White Prize. The Medal commemorates Frederick White, who donated the initial funding for the Prize. White, a Fellow of the Academy, took a leading role in its affairs and was Chairman of CSIRO from 1959 to 1970.
