Summary

The Department for Environment and Heritage (2000 - 2010) also known as DEH carried out a variety of functions during its life span across the areas of environmental policy, sport and recreation, and heritage protection. DEH was formed due to the dismantling of the Department for Environment, Heritage and Aboriginal Affairs (DEHAA) (1998 - 2000). DEH took on the environmental and heritage functions of DEHAA as well as the tourism and sporting functions from the Department of Industry and Trade (1997 - 2002). Overtime the functions of DEH were transferred to other departments. In 2010 DEH was re-named the Department of Environment and Natural Resources [II] (2010 - 2012).
