Summary
In 1967 the Department of Marine and Harbours (1967 - 1995) replaced the South Australian Harbors Board (1913 - 1966) and took over responsibility for construction, maintenance, safety and port dues amongst other function of South Australian ports. The Department of Marine and Harbors (1967 - 1995) also carried out examinations for a number of marine roles including interstate vessel Masters, Mates, Engineers, Skippers, and Coxswains and Motor Engine Drivers. In 1995 the Department of Marine and Harbours (1967 - 1995) was abolished and replaced by a statutory authority called the South Australian Ports Corporation (1995 - 2001).
