Summary
Established in 1913 the South Australian Harbours Board (1913 - 1966) co-existed with the Marine Board [2] until 1925 when it took over all of the Marine Boards (1860 - 1925) functions. The South Australian Harbours Board (1913 - 1966) was responsible for construction, maintenance, safety and port dues amongst other function of South Australian ports. In addition, the South Australian Harbours Board (1913 - 1966) was able to compulsorily acquire private wharves, something the Marine Board had no legislated mandate to do. In 1967 the South Australian Harbors Board was replaced by the Department of Marine and Harbors (1967 - 1995).
