Summary
The Leighton Memorial Medal, which commemorates the contributions to Australian chemistry of Arthur E. Leighton, has been awarded annually by the Royal Australian Chemical Institute (RACI) since 1965. Leighton was a foundation Member of the Australian Chemical Institute, the predecessor of the RACI, and President from 1952 to 1953. The Medal was inaugurated through the generosity of Leighton's daughter, Ann Leighton. Only Members of the RACI are eligible to receive the Medal which is awarded in recognition of eminent services to chemistry in Australia in the broadest sense, including research, technology and service to the RACI, public service and national leadership.
