Summary

The Department of Primary Industries, Fisheries and Forestry was established in 1996. It was created when some of the original functions and roles of its predecessor the Department of Primary Industries (I) (1963 - 1996) were given over to the newly created Department of Natural Resources (1996 - 2001).
