Geologist Robin Hill is an expert in nickel exploration and has been influential in developing the nickel industry in Australia. Hill worked at the CSIRO in the Division of Mineralogy, which became the Division of Exploration and Mining in 1993, from 1973 to 2004.

Hill received the following CSIRO awards:

1991 - CSIRO Medal for Research Achievement for nickel exploration research;

1992 - Sir Ian McLennan Impact from Science and Engineering Award for his work on how some Western Australian nickel deposits are formed enabling Companies to demonstrably increase the effectiveness and success rate of their exploration activities.
