Summary
James Rutherford managed Cobb & Co. for some months in 1857, before resuming travelling and trading. In 1861 he bought the company with several partners and became its general manager. He extended it to New South Wales in 1862 and Queensland in 1865. As the firm grew factories and workshops were established and they expanded into property and stock ownership.
