Summary
Victor Burgmann was a physicist whose early career was in radar research at CSIR(O). He was involved in establishing communication channels with radar scientists, and the development of airborne radar designed to detect ships at sea. Later research was in civil uses of radar, including distance-measuring for aviation and maritime navigation. In 1949 CSIRO embarked on an extensive research program wool textiles: Burgmann was appointed Officer in Charge of the Physics and Engineering Unit of CSIRO's Wool Textile Research Laboratories in Sydney. When this became the Division of Textile Physics, he became the divisional Chief. From 1970 He was a member of the CSIRO Executive, serving as Chairman from 1977 to 1978.
