Summary
Daniel Baldwin was Chief Engineer of the Commonwealth Oil Refineries Ltd. from 1932. In the late 1920s and 1930s, he was a leading engineer in the pioneering application of electric-arc welding in engineering structures including all-welded bridges, and all-welded steel storage tanks for crude oil and petroleum. At the time, these were some of the largest all-welded structures of their kind in the world.
Together with co-director Corrie Gardner, they pioneered standardised pre-fabricated all-welded garages, sleep-outs, cabins, cottages, churches and classrooms.
