Summary
William Williams was a Wesleyan minister, and in 1897 was elected as the annual president and later the general president of the Methodist Churches in Australia. He was a keen naturalist and an active member of the local science societies in the localities he served as a minister. In 1889, he was elected as a Fellow of the Linnean Society, London, sponsored by F. Mueller for his 'exceptional knowledge of certain branches of science'. Other sponsors were Dr Paul Howard MacGillivray of Bendigo, and John Bracebridge Wilson of Geelong. Williams wrote and presented several scientific articles, which were often re-published in the local newpapers.
