Summary
Alexander Collie was a general practitioner who worked as a ship's surgeon in the British Admiralty and went as a naturalist on Colonel Beechey's voyage to North America, before coming to Australia where he was the Colonial Surgeon for Perth from 1832-1835. He was also a keen botanist and collected plants in California, Chile and Australia. His collecting expeditions took in the Swan River, Leeuwins Land, north of King Georges Sound, Cockburn Sound to Geographe Bay and from Albany to French River. His plant specimens were sent to the Herbarium at Kew Botanical Gardens, London.
