Nothing known of his birth, early life, or death. Commanded the San Pedrico 1605-07 which left Callao, Peru, on 21 December in search of the supposed southern continent. Effectively assumed command when the ship carrying the leader of the expedition was lost in a storm. Sailed through Torres Strait, thus discovering that New Guinea was not the northern peninsula of a southern continent.
