Summary
The Yallourn Power Station can trace its history back to 1919, when it was decided that a power station would be built in Victoria's east. The first sod was turned at the Yallourn Power Station site in 1921. The station and adjacent brown coal mine were initially owned by the Victorian government, but was privatised and sold to Yallourn Energy then TXU (now called TRUenergy). Today the station supplies approximately 22% of Victoria's electricity needs and 8% nationally.
