Summary

Shortly after the incorporation of Santos Limited, in 1954, the company acquired exploration leases which enabled it to explore over 325,000 square kilometres in South Australia and south-west Queensland. In 1958 the company entered into a joint agreement with Delhi Australia Petroleum Ltd. By the mid 1960s this partnership had established a sufficient supply of natural gas for Adelaide and was also able to supply Sydney and Canberra by 1976.
