Summary

Ian Langlands was Chief of CSIR/O Division of Building Research 1944-1971, and took a leading role in researching Australian building materials and establishing building practices in Australia, particularly in structural timber. He was Deputy Chancellor, Monash University 1974-1980.

He was educated at the University of Melbourne (BEE, MMechE) and was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 1976 and a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering (FTSE) in 1981.
