From activists to zoologists, women have played many different roles in the history of Australian science, technology and medicine over time. They have been engaged in all disciplines and have often had other jobs before, during or after their scientific careers.
This search produces an alphabetical list of the occupations of women in Bright Sparcs with links to the biographical entries of the relevant women.
The reality of any one life often defies the stereotypical impressions of professions and this certainly applies to science and the related fields. Where possible the biographical entries for the women take the form of a chronology, as in the example of Helen Caldicott.
A survey of even a handful of entries will reveal the diversity of paths that women have taken that have lead to their involvement with science. See, for example, women who had some involvement with Australian science who were also artists.
