Summary
Frank Angel was lepidopterist who, with his twin brother Sidney, became interested in insects at an early age. With their friend Frank Parsons, they travelled widely across Australia collecting specimens. After his death, Angel's large collection of Lepidoptera was donated to the South Australian Museum. His other interest was birds. He joined the South Australian Ornithological Association in 1913. Two years later he became Secretary, holding office for five years before becoming President in 1922. For 20 years he was a member of the Editorial Committee for the Association's journal, the South Australian ornithologist. Fellow members of the Association with whom he was closely associated were Edwin Ashby, John Cleland, Symonds Clark, Walter Howchin and Samuel White. Angel participated in field excursions of other natural history organisations, including the Royal Australasian Ornithological Union and the Field Naturalists' Section of the Royal Society of South Australia. After finishing school he joined the firm of J. Kronheimer & Co., a tobacco company, and spent his whole career in this business. In his youth he was a champion gymnast.
