Summary
The Ballarat Field Club and Science Society was established in 1882, the second such organisation founded in Victoria. Its aims included stimulating scientific inquiry by presenting original or little-known matters at meetings. Meetings were held at the School of Mines, students at which were granted ex officio membership. The Club also held field excursions and wildflower shows. In 1890 the Club folded, being revived in 1915, with a new set of rules. The proposed name, the School of Mines Science and Field Naturalists Club, was superceded by the Ballarat Science and Field Naturalists Club. Minutes of meetings are held by the Ballarat Field Naturalists Club.
