Summary
The Gibb Maitland Medal has been awarded by the South Australian Division of the Geological Society of Austtralia since 1986. Awarded annually, it recognises outstanding and substantial contributions to geoscience in Western Australia. Particular consideration is given to contribuitions that relate to the discovery or documentation of mineral and petroleum resources in the State. Andrew Gibb Maitland was Government Geologist from 1896 to 1926, and established the Geological Survey of Western Australia.
