Summary

The South Australian Reinforced Concrete Company was established in 1906 by John Monash, with two local shareholders Edward Howard Bakewell (Managing Director) and Charles Howard Angas, and with David Mitchell and John Gibson from Victoria who had acquired an interest in the South Australian Portland Cement Company. The company established a factory at Kilkenny to manufacture Monier concrete pipes and other concrete works under licence, and to successfully compete for designs and tenders for local reinforced concrete structures including bridges, buildings, water tanks and jetties.
