- Abstract
Concrete was rediscovered in the 1750s and first used in South Australia in 1860 when Herschel Babbage built a wine cellar. This easily formed material would literally change the face of building. And when Joseph Monier added iron wires to the mix, the world was given the infinite possibilities of reinforced concrete. Its first use in South Australia might come as a surprise.
