Summary
Margaret Pieroni is one of Australia's foremost botanical artists. After two decades of working as an artist in advertising, and recovering from leukaemia, Pieroni moved to Western Australia in 1974 and became immersed in the study of the local flora. She is recognised for her significant contribution to the study of Dryandra (a series within the genus Banksia) endemic to Western Australia. For many years she has collected specimens, painted and photographed the plants, and undertaken horticultural research. Since 1987, she has been Leader of the Dryandra Study Group of the Australian Native Plants Society. In 1991, with six other eminent Western Australian botanical artists, she founded the Botanical Artists Group of Western Australia. Other groups of which she is a member include the Society for Growing Australian Plants, the Wildflower Society of Western Australia, and the Watercolour Society of Western Australia.
