Summary
Alan Lill was an ornithologist whose research into the ecology and evolution of birds covered a wide range of species including lyrebirds, crimson rosellas, bowerbirds, short-tailed shearwaters, toucans and domestic fowl. His interests extended to marsupials, including the sugar glider, brush-tailed phascogale, and Leadbeater's possum. Between 1996 and 2009 Lill was Associate Professor of Biological Sciences and Psychology and Monash University. During the 36 years he taught at Monash he developed the University's first behavioural ecology course. Lill was an active member of ornithological organisations, servicing two terms as Vice-President of the Australian Bird Study Association, and Editing the Association's journal Corella. The Alan Lill Award has been presented in alternate years by the Association for the best student poster at the Australasian Ornithological Conference.
